Chiari Malformation MRI Results | 2 Boys, 1 Big Day!

This MRI day was a big one for our family! Both Mason and Jack had their scans on the same day to check for Chiari malformation. Mason’s MRI was his two-year post-op check after his second decompression surgery, and Jack’s was to monitor his Chiari after one year. If you’re new here, Chiari malformation happens when part of the brain extends into the spinal canal, which can cause a wide range of symptoms. Both of our boys were diagnosed early in life, and Mason has already been through two decompression surgeries and a VP shunt surgery for hydrocephalus all before we found out about his Duchenne MD diagnosis! Jack’s scan this time brought such a sigh of relief!....No surgery needed and no more MRIs unless symptoms pop up! Days like this can be overwhelming, but they’re also a reminder of how far we’ve come.
