A German-born super-elite: It arrived across the ocean from Dortmund, Germany, in 1938. Its original purchase price was approximately 450,000 yen. Today, it's a high-end machine tool worth hundreds of millions of yen. Guardian of Japanese shipbuilding: After machining the Yamato's main guns, it continued to machine engine parts (crankshafts) for large tankers and other ships during the postwar reconstruction period.
