Why Uranium Is the World's Most POWERFUL Element

🔗 Save $6,000 A Year with My Complete Amish Home-Saving Method I teach: https://eliasyoder.com An ordinary rock is a dead thing. It sits where you put it and does nothing at all. Leave a stone on a fence post and come back in twenty years, and it is the very same stone, cold and still and quiet. That is the plain nature of a rock. But there is a certain kind of rock in this world that does not behave that way. It is heavy in the hand, heavier than you would expect. And if you held a good piece of it, you would find something that ought to stop your heart a moment. It is warm. Faintly, quietly warm, all on its own. Nobody heated it. It was not sitting in the sun. There is no fire in it and no fuel burning. And yet it is warm, and it will go on being warm, giving out a steady quiet power all by itself, needing nothing added, longer than any man will live to watch it. That is uranium. I am Elias Yoder. I am Amish, and I farm in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Now I will say plainly right at the start, this is a substance I have no part in whatsoever, and want none. It is nothing a farmer handles, nothing that belongs in any barn or any home. I have never seen it and never touched it, and please God I never will. So I am no man of science, and I will not pretend to be. I am simply a curious man who heard of a rock that is warm to the touch and gives off power all by itself, and went and learned what such a thing could be. What I walk you through: ✔ What uranium plainly is: a heavy metal you dig from the ground, found in certain rocks and ores, like iron or copper ore in that much ✔ Where it parts from every ordinary metal: iron and copper sit still and dead until a man works them, but uranium is restless, quietly coming apart on its own, giving off power without being lit, fed, or fired ✔ Why that is so strange to a farmer: every other power must be fed, the horse, the fire, the stove, even the sun that fills the solar panels rises and sets, but this stone gives day and night, needing nothing ✔ Why the power and the peril are one and the same thing, not two ✔ Why it is so terribly dangerous: the unseen power harms a living body deep inside, and gives no warning at all, you cannot see it, smell it, taste it, or feel it, and the harm is done before you know it ✔ Why it can only be handled behind great thicknesses of lead and concrete, with machines and long tools, by trained people watched by instruments, because their own senses will not save them ✔ A plain, honest caution: this is nothing to seek out, collect, handle, or keep. Leave it entirely alone. It belongs in no home The plain hard wisdom underneath it all: folks call uranium the most powerful thing on earth, and the power in it is real. But power alone was never the measure of a good thing. Ask instead: can I control it, contain it, mend it when it breaks, put it back the way it was? That is the test my people apply to every tool and beast and method. And by that test this rock fails more completely than anything on earth, for it cannot be turned off, its power cannot be called back, and when men lose their hold on it, the harm is not the sort a man can repair. Great power, and no mastery. I would rather have a good horse I can feed and mend and rest, for the horse is mine, and I can always put down the reins. This is one of a series on Elias Yoder Explains, where I take the ordinary things of daily life and explain them plainly, the way the careful old folks understood them. Tell me in the comments below. Did you know there was such a thing as a stone warm to the touch that gives off power all on its own? And here is what I would like to hear, plainly. What is the test you apply to a tool or a machine before you let it into your life? Do you ask what it can do for you, or whether you can master it and mend it and lay it down when you choose? I read every single one.
