ਜਸਵੰਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਖਾਲੜਾ ਦੇ ਅਗਵਾ ਹੋਣ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਕਤਲ ਤੱਕ ਦੀ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਦੱਸਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਫਿਲਮ 'ਸਤਲੁਜ' ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਲੁਕੇ ਸੱਚ ਨੂੰ ਮਈ 1996 ਵਿੱਚ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਅਖਬਾਰ 'Indian Express' ਦੇ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰ ਸਤਿੰਦਰ ਬੈਂਸ ਨੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਜਾਗਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ। ਮੁੱਖ ਚਸ਼ਮਦੀਦ ਗਵਾਹ SPO ਕੁਲਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਸਚਾਈ ਬੈਂਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸੀ ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਕਹਾਉਂਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਅਖਬਾਰ ਦੇ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਨੂੰ ਹੱਥ ਪਾਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਨਾਂਹ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਸੀ। ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No one knew till 6th May 1996 that human rights activist, Jaswant Singh Khalra, had been shot dead at Chabbal police station of Tarn Taran till Satinder Bains of the Indian Express broke the story. Bains based his report on the statement of SPO Kuldip Singh, who was an eyewitness to the crime. The Indian Express scoop later served as the basis for the CBI investigation, leading to the conviction of seven police officers.
