I purchased this Carvera Air with my own funds. This video is not sponsored. ------------------------------ This video tests whether a small desktop CNC can machine a fully functional ARRI Rosette — a standardized connection used in camera rigs, filmmaking gear, and various mounting systems. The name “Rosette” is commonly used in the camera and video production community. In mechanical engineering, however, similar interlocking tooth profiles are more formally known as Hirth couplings or Curvic couplings, depending on the geometry. In Japan, this pattern is also called “Kikuza” (菊座) because it resembles chrysanthemum petals. This video intentionally uses an unusual combination of tools and toolpaths to examine tool mark patterns. Because of this, the machining sequence shown here is not intended to be a recommended workflow. ------------------------------ TIMESTAMPS 00:00 Intro 00:08 WCS Setup 00:20 Tool 1 – 2.5mm 3-Flute DLC-Coated Square End Mill 01:15 Tool 2 – 4mm 3-Flute DLC-Coated Square End Mill 04:02 Tool 1 (Return) – 2.5mm 3-Flute DLC-Coated Square End Mill 07:24 Tool 3 – 6mm 2-Flute DLC-Coated V-Bit 08:15 Tool 4 – M6×1 Thread Mill (Ø4.8mm) 08:43 Tool 5 – 4mm 2-Flute DLC-Coated V-Bit 12:16 Tool 1 (Finishing Pass) – 2.5mm 3-Flute DLC-Coated Square End Mill 14:35 Final Result ------------------------------ MACHINING FOOTAGE All machining footage — except for the tool-change moments — is shown in real time with the original cutting sound. No timelapses, overlays, or simulated audio. The footage represents the actual machining experience. ------------------------------ NOTE All toolpaths and cutting parameters shown in this video are experimental. Results may vary depending on tools, materials, machine condition, and setup. They are not intended as general recommendations. Always follow proper safety procedures when operating CNC equipment. ------------------------------ PROJECT DETAILS Machine: Makera Carvera Air (Desktop CNC) Material: 5052 Aluminum Software: Fusion 360 (CAD/CAM) + Carvera Controller ------------------------------ COMMUNITY & FEEDBACK If you have machining tips — especially for similar Hirth or Curvic tooth profiles — feel free to share them in the comments. I am still testing cutter geometry, feed rates, and toolpaths to improve the surface finish and machining efficiency. Further experiments are planned. ------------------------------ MORE CONTENT For more machining tests, camera-rig components, and behind-the-scenes updates: / cinetronix ------------------------------ Some links in this description are affiliate links. #CarveraAir #MakeraZ1 #CNCmachining
