They're highly trained and experienced soldiers capable of humanitarian, peacekeeping and front-line fighting. They have two Battalions, 1st Battalion (Regular) and 2nd Battalion (Reserve). The 1st (Regular) Battalion is based in England at Clive Barracks, Shropshire, while the 2nd (Reserve) Battalion headquarters is in Lisburn, Co Antrim. During their time in Afghanistan and Iraq, they have proved themselves as a fearsome fighting Regiment. One of their many battles includes The Battle of Musa Qala, where a small force of Royal Irish, 3 Para and Afghan National Police had to fight off hundreds of Taliban fighters for over a month straight with little support from allied forces.
