Official Opening of the Troy Bridge, Trelawny
About Troy Bridge The historic Troy Bridge, built in 1869, collapsed in August 2021 following heavy rains from Tropical Storm Grace. The bridge spans the Hector's River along the Oxford-to-Troy main road and connects communities in Trelawny and Manchester. Its loss severely disrupted transportation, access to education and healthcare, economic activity, and emergency response services for thousands of residents and farmers who depend on this critical link. Reconstruction began in July 2024 under a $231 million contract awarded to Dwights Construction Limited. The new bridge restores connectivity between Oxford, Cowich Park, Glasgow, and Troy, improving access to essential services and employment opportunities, reducing travel time and costs, enhancing public safety, and supporting the long-term social and economic well-being of the surrounding communities. This vital infrastructure project represents the Government of Jamaica's continued commitment to strengthening connectivity, promoting economic growth, and improving the quality of life for citizens through sustainable national development.
