Nigeria belongs to all of us. While every citizen has the right and often the responsibility to criticise poor governance, corruption, insecurity, and policies that affect our lives, we should be careful not to tear down the image of our country in the process. We must separate our criticism of those in power from our love for Nigeria. Governments come and go, but the country remains our collective home. Many Nigerians also wait for foreigners to speak positively about Nigeria before appreciating what we have. The reality is that people from other countries are naturally loyal to their own nations. They are not under any obligation to promote Nigeria or defend our image. That responsibility rests with us. Constructive criticism strengthens a nation. Constantly denigrating the country does not. We can demand accountability from our leaders while still celebrating our culture, our people, our resilience, and our achievements.
