Rue Montorgueil – Traces of Old Paris

Rue Montorgueil is one of the oldest market streets in Paris — once a main supply route for Les Halles, the former central food market of the city. Today it is lively, crowded, and full of cafés and shops. But behind the activity, traces of an older Paris still remain. In this walk, we move slowly down the street, looking at what is still there — historic façades, old shop signs, architectural details, and fragments of a working street that once fed the entire city. Some places are well known. Others are easy to miss. We visit: Au Rocher de Cancale, Stohrer (founded 1730), old painted signs and façades, mascarons, and surviving details from the street’s past. Rue Montorgueil is not a museum. It is a functioning street — but one where the past is still visible, if you know where to look. #paris #ruemontorgueil #parishistory #pariswalk #oldparis #parisstreets #leshalles #france
