The Obscure series offer quality horror experiences in the mid 2000s heydays of the sixth generation of gaming. They have their own quirks and flair to stand out from other titles of this timeframe. The first Obscure uses a high school setting, while the sequel uses University. Underutilized settings in the world of horror gaming, despite being ripe for usage. Both Obscure games serve as nice period pieces of the mid 2000s. A showing of the hold high school had on pop culture. While taking place in America, French studio Hydravision Entertainment developed the games. Some of those European touches give the Obscure games a unique flavor that you won't find elsewhere. Both Obscure titles have their merits and drawbacks. The first Obscure has a more arcade-like feel to its gameplay. The sequel addresses some of the first games shortcomings, but loses some of its unique feel. It's a case of a few steps forward, with a few steps back. It's a sequel that feels a bit more by the books and generic. That said, they're well worth checking out if you're a fan of what I cover on the channel.
