„Czternastka” – pożegnanie z legendą. Columbia mówi: dobranoc

They entered service in the 1980s, becoming world leaders in anti-submarine warfare helicopters. Due to their saturation with modern systems, pilots compared the Mi-14PŁ to the space shuttle Columbia. After four decades, they are being retired. We had the opportunity to observe one of the last flights. "On August 31st, this helicopter will cease operations in Darłowo. And this is the last one, so from September 1st, the Mi-14s will no longer be operated at sea," says Lieutenant Commander Karol Szprendałowicz, senior navigator of the air group and tactical officer in the Mi-14PŁ crew. For the pilots of the Naval Aviation Brigade, working with these machines was the adventure of a lifetime. They called them flying power plants because so much energy was required for all the equipment mounted on board. But today, pilots graduating from the School of Eaglets in Dęblin can no longer read the descriptions of these devices – they are written in Cyrillic. The Soviet "20th century super technology" is being replaced by the modern Italian-British AW101.
