I caught every fish instead of working for Tom Nook
After Nook gave me a house, I said I would pay it off, but I lied and I went fishing instead. This is actually a Golden Rod speedrun route I thought of that's never been done before until now because of how insane the RNG is. The goal is to catch all 40 fish and obtain the Golden Rod from Tortimer without ever entering Nook's store. In this route, I save 2-3 minutes over completing chores but it takes an average of 7 hours to actually get a fishing rod to start fishing. Theoretically, this route could save even more time around 5-6 minutes, but that takes an average of 160 hours to pull off. Never before done in a speedrun, I go for a Lost & Found Fishing Rod drop which is a 1/240 chance every new day. In this route, I save & quit and advance time forward one day at a time 4 times in a row to give myself 4 chances for a 1/240 fishing rod drop. This improves my odds of a fishing rod to spawn while still saving 2-3 minutes over the standard Golden Rod route which completes chores and types in a code for a fishing rod. Despite these improved odds, it still takes an average of 7 hours to get a fishing rod to spawn and then to actually save time, you need to get Island Rain first try which is another 1/5 chance. This means it takes an average of 35 hours to actually get this 2-3 minute time save. And Golden Rod runs themselves are extremely RNG heavy with no-reset run times deviating by hours depending on town layout and fish RNG. So even if you manage to get a run going that saves time, you still need a decent river to have even a slim chance at getting a WR time. And if you want to save the full 5-6 potential minutes, you need to get a first try Fishing Rod drop with first try Island Rain which takes an average of 160 hours to happen. Island Rain is needed because the Coelacanth which is one of the 40 fish only spawns in the rain and rain cannot occur in town before completing chores as decided by the Animal Crossing developers. Thankfully the island can still get rain but only with a 1/5 chance regardless of the time of day or year. And since the Kapp'n boat ride takes a long time, you need first try rain to actually save time. In this route, it's faster to reset on Kapp'n's boat ride and deal with Mr. Resetti once you determine if you didn't get rain. Because of these insane RNG elements, I made this run a no-reset run once I finally obtained the Fishing Rod. It took me about 40 attempts over 6.5 hours to finally get my first Fishing Rod in the Lost & Found which is slightly better than average. This is the first time anyone has ever completed this Golden Rod route. This route is perfectly fine following the speedrun category rules and would be allowed on the leaderboards! My goal for this run was sub-2 hours with half an hour dedicated to Island Rain which I'm happy to have achieved! This is of course not WR for a Golden Rod speedrun, but it is a WR for the world's first Golden Rod NO Chores speedrun! Enjoy the craziest Golden Rod route you've ever seen! #animalcrossing #speedrun #gaming
