My Bizarre Journey to Bulgaria: Don't trust the tourist books. 🛑

Sofia promised me hot springs, historic bridges, and a bustling market hall. The tourist book lied. Well—mostly. But before I even got to Bulgaria, my taxi driver to the bus station had a very specific request involving my shoulders. And my muscles. I still haven't fully recovered. Throw in a cross-border bus journey where my passport gets examined like ancient scripture, and a bus attendant who kicks me out of my seat because I woke him up, and it was a proper shift before I even arrived Once in Sofia, I followed the tourist itinerary book cover to cover. Page one, stop by stop: 🦁 Lions' Bridge – The architect forgot the lion's tongue and jumped off in shame. It's a 3-metre drop; he definitely walked away. 🛒 Central Market Hall – It's a supermarket. 🕌 Banya Bashi Mosque – Genuinely beautiful. Moving on. ♨️ Serdika Hot Springs – Lukewarm at best. Rename it accordingly. 🏛️ Underground Ruins of Serdika – Now this is the hidden gem nobody talks about enough. 🛍️ Vitosha Boulevard + the Cathedral – Saved the best for last. Stunning. Sofia is worth it, but you're better off leaving the guidebook at home and just walking the streets.
