2x Orona Elevators @ Moxy Lausanne City***, Lausanne, VD, Switzerland

This hotel is located at the western edge of Lausanne's Flon district, an area that once served as a terminus of a freight railroad and thus a key logistics hub but declined in the 20th century and subsequently redeveloped into a pedestrian-friendly, mixed-use district beginning from the 2000s. The hotel, operating under Marriott's lifestyle select-service brand Moxy, opened in December 2019, in time for the 3rd Winter Youth Olympic Games held in the city the following month. The hotel building, with 5 floors above ground and 1 below (2 if counting the basement mezzanine), had a rectangular floorplate that formed an enclosed square with three other neighboring buildings. All of its 113 rooms had been pre-fabricated elsewhere and assembled on-site, giving the building a uniform, geometric look with accented by polygonal windows in each room. The ground-floor lobby, with the main entrance from the square, featured a large, communal open space with a combination bar and all-day dining in the center, which was also where the check-in and out took place as per guidelines of the Moxy brand concept. At the northwestern corner of the ground floor were six of the guestrooms, which were slightly elevated compared to the rest of the ground floor and thus accessible via a half flight of stairs due to the difference in floor-to-ceiling height between the room modules and the lobby. The rest of the rooms were on floors 1-4, with an ironing room also provided within the building's core on the 1st floor (in lieu of irons and ironing boards placed in every room as in traditional hotels). The basement mezzanine (denoted as "service level") contained the back-of-house areas, while the basement proper had a small fitness center and mechanical rooms. The building had two elevators, both of which were machine-room-less installations supplied by Spanish elevator manufacturer Orona. There were no separate service elevators, with the larger of the two elevators (which ran under a single controller) doubling as a service elevator; this "service" car had two openings, with the rear door opening into a service lobby present on floors 1-3 as well as the 1st basement (represented in the COP with a blank button next to each of the buttons for front-side landings) allowing the staff to call the elevator separately. The presence of the rear opening on the larger car also allowed for an accessible route to the elevated ground-floor rooms (indicated as "0+"), thus eliminating the need for a wheelchair lift. The cabs had stainless steel walls, which featured brightly-colored and vibrant decals that were in line with the youthful and jovial atmosphere of the Moxy brand and prevented the cabs from looking otherwise too plain. They had 3G10 fixtures, the standard ones used in Orona installations beginning from the mid-2010s. All floors―even the basement which had the fitness center―except for the ground floor required a key card or a staff pass; in particular, a staff pass was required to select the basement mezzanine and all rear-opening service landings in the service car. The ride quality was pretty good except for the loud, high-pitched motor noise which sounded like a hair dryer; these also exhibited a "double-braking" deceleration pattern also seen in some recent Otis SkyRise installations. The cabs were already showing some signs of age however, with the card reader in the passenger-only car chipped off and some scratches on the walls of the service car (though the latter was understandable and probably due to the limitations of not having a dedicated service elevator).
