Winter is Coming - W.P. Road Redbirds

Shot the night before the last day of the 20th Century celebrating the 40+ year run of painted SMEE IRT cars, truly the archetype NYC Subway Train. And just for old times sake, a little bit of graffiti. Also note the incandescent lighting at Pelham Parkway. This station was on the verge of being overhauled, so the lighting remained on borrowed time. It was the last platform on the IRT to receive fluorescent lighting. After that only the Rockaways and perhaps a couple of other places, lasted a few dozen months longer. By 2010 virtually all mezzanines and odd street stairs were finally converted. In 2015 there are still a few bulbs lit up, but no public area that I am aware of is entirely lit by incandescent bulbs.
