Cadwell Park CSCC Modern Classics 27 Jun 26 - Ginetta G20

Si Frowen, Ginetta G20 #83, in the Classic Sports Car Club Modern Classics at Cadwell Park on 27 Jun 26. First video for a while owing to being away with work, and taking a while to get back up to speed (with racing, and making videos). Still no data, but a work in progress... I've had a few reliability niggles this year, so the main aim was a finish. During testing on the Thursday evening, I struggled to get myself up to pace and experienced some strange clanking/banging from the diff at the rear. It had loosened some bolts, so I tightened those up on the Friday and was set for qualifying. I ended up qualifying 9th, again with some slightly strange handling at the back end which wasn't helping with my confidence. Onto the race and I made a fair start, but not my best. Managed to avoid the Esprit which had a slow start and then settled into the race. I initially struggled to get past a couple of cars (Rob Adams in the orange/grey G20 was experiencing the same), but managed to jump them in the pitstop with a slick one (1:30.6, quickest in the race). I started managing to get some better laps out of it after the pitstop, but then we had a long safety car period due to the Adams' G20 having an off in the Hall Bends. The prolonged safety car gave me time to catch a breath and make a plan - ahead of me I could see Steve Griffiths' G20, and was pretty sure he was ahead of me on track and in class. Having checked with Laura about the amount of time remaining in the race, I was pretty sure we'd only have a single racing lap after the SC and therefore I'd need to make it count. I managed to make it past Steve, and then put the Boxster between he and I which made it final. Almost got Stewart Robb's Morgan on the run to the flag after he missed a gear, but it wasn't quite to be (by 0.18s). So 4th overall, p2 in class and a pot. Overall a slightly disappointing performance by me, but the car broadly held together which was a great success after some fighting with it thus far this year. Post race I also found why the handling was strange (and why bolts were backing out) - the diff front mount had snapped! It'll be going back on this week, then we're next out at Snetterton on July 19th. Thanks as ever to Laura for the pit support, Dunc and Nic for coming to watch, and to Mark De Spong for the never-ending abuse, banter and parts supply!
