Elvis Stateline Tahoe: October 13 1974 MS
This week, I have a recording from Lake Tahoe, October 1974 for you! Recordings from Lake Tahoe in general are quite rare, especially from this season! Only 2 shows are known to have been recorded out of the total of 8 shows! I would love to hear something of the last show, as Duke Bardwell sang “Please Don't Bury Me” at this concert! Want a little more about that story? On October 14th, at the closing show, Elvis was so tired of performing for basically a half month straight (There was only a 1 day break between the last show of his Sep / Oct tour and this engagement), that he had to take a little break on stage. He asked Voice, JD Sumner & The Stamps, The Sweet Inspirations and Kathy to perform some songs. When all of them were done, he asked if there was someone else who could sing something too. James Burton told Elvis that Duke Bardwell could sing! Elvis didn't buy it at first, so they gave him a mic and acoustic guitar. Duke was quite nervous as he hadn't done such a thing at an Elvis concert before, and, he had to follow up on Kathy's "My Heavenly Father"! However, there was no need for him to be nervous, as the rest of the band joined him in the last few verses. Elvis was very impressed, asking if they had been practicing that without him! As far as I know, there only exists a single photo of this moment, nothing more. I really hope some more media surfaces. Now we've had enough of a different concert. Enjoy this one and I'll see you next week! NOTE: I have no idea why I put Let Me Be There on the setlist!
