At the time, it was one of the best medical facilities in South Africa. Close to 2x decades later, on 26 December 1996, all doctors and medical staff abandoned the hospital in a single day, leaving behind a fully operational facility with all of its medical equipment worth millions, but worse yet, leaving patients to fend for themselves. In the following days, some say that patients were seen leaving the hospital in their hospital gowns, looking helpless and not knowing where to go… Being a state-owned medical facility, no real explanation was given for the abandonment of this place… leaving room for speculation, the rise of urban myths, and Kempton Park Hospital becoming one of the most haunted places in the country.
