Transonic Wing Flutter Analysis Using Simcenter STAR-CCM+ and Simcenter Nastran Co-Simulation

The design and certification of modern aircraft require aeroelastic analyses that account for both structural and aerodynamic forces to predict performance. Sophisticated high-fidelity computational aeroelastic techniques utilize a solution that couples a structural dynamics solver, such as Simcenter Nastran, with a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solver, such as Simcenter STAR-CCM+. Simcenter STAR-CCM+ is recognized as the industry standard for CFD simulation of transonic flow around aircraft and wings. When it is coupled with Simcenter Nastran, the resultant co-simulation can give increased insight into the behavior of a wing or a body in transonic flow. During this webinar, ATA will demonstrate an example of a co-simulation workflow for predicting flutter of a transonic wing. For those attendees who wish to try this technique for themselves, ATA can provide evaluation licenses for the Simcenter tools and copies of the data files used in the example.
