Brexit: what EU citizens should do (in 2020) ✅️

📧 I am happy to help with your visa and citizenship options. Please contact me through the details here: https://tom-bradford.com/contact-me/ 🗣️ Ask a question on Brexit, EU nationals or settled status in the comments below and I will answer it! Brexit video about EU citizens and the information they need about what settled status in the United Kingdom is, who will be covered and the application process. "Brexit Day" will be 29 March 2019 but the transition period will take EU citizens through to 31 December 2020. The EU and the UK have come to a provisional agreement of your rights as an EU citizen in the UK. If you apply for and secure the new "pre-settled status" or "settled status" in the UK, your right will continue, in other words, you will be able to continue to reside in the UK, to work and have access to healthcare, etc. Who is covered? All EU citizens who arrive before the end of the transition period of 31 December 2020: 1) Bear in mind the that this is a deadline - if you are not resident in the UK before that date, then you will not be able to apply for pre-settled or settled status. You will instead be subject to the new, and likely more onerous, post-Brexit regime; 2) The actual deadline for applications, however, is several months after that, so you will not need to apply before the end of the transition period. However, given the numbers of EU citizens in the UK who will need to apply, over 3 million of them, you may want to apply early to secure your rights. The UK government is saying that the application process will be an easy one. Many EU citizens will already have so called "permanent residence" in the UK. You can secure this status if you have been doing a so-called qualifying activity in the UK, like working. If you already have a document certifying your right to permanent residence in the UK, then you will be able to swap this for the new settled status, without having to go through the settled status application. Brexit presents many uncertainties and so this video talks through the options for you as an EU citizens. I hope this information is helpful. If you have any questions about settled status then please do not hesitate to put them in the comments below. Many thanks!
