MAURITANIA. I head deep into the Sahara on a Honda Africa Twin in search of a true oasis amidst the mountains and endless desert. I spend the night in an oasis, then head to Nouakchott and camp on the Atlantic Ocean shore amidst sand, wind, and an incredible sunset. After a night at the border, a new adventure begins. I turn off my usual route and set off to find one of Mauritania's true oases. All around are only rocky mountains, sand, and hundreds of kilometers of empty space. I spend the night among palm trees and springs in the middle of the Sahara, and then set course for Nouakchott. The day ends on the wild Atlantic coast, where, among the sand dunes, I experience one of the most beautiful sunsets of this trip. This isn't a tourist postcard. This is the real experience of a solo motorcycle trip across Africa, showing real life without embellishment.
