Vermont Castings Aspen C3 Wood Stove Cold Start

Haven't measured my flue exactly but its about a 21' straight pipe. I can only compare it to several 1970s-80s Fisher stoves I used extensively growing up, but I dont have anything modern to compare it to. The majority of reviews online say its a very, very finicky stove and difficult to get a good burn with. I think that is because most users aren't using wood thats dry enough. I guess I've learned to work with its downsides because I get very reliable overnight burns and no creosote buildup or smoking or airflow issues. I can throw a log or two in it around 9-10PM, and the next morning around 7AM itll still have plenty of hot coals left to just toss some kindling in to get it going again. Its a fine line though, because if i dont stoke it enough at night or get up early enough ill have to basically do a cold start. Our house is fairly small so its a good size for us, I think. The stove is quite small. From what Ive seen online its Mostly used only in tiny hunting cabins, or for decorative purposes in rustic get a way cabins where its only used seldom as in a couple days out of the year, mostly for ambiance. But we have used it full time for the past 4 winters and never need to supplement it with central heating, but we do somtimes only because im too tired or busy doing other stuff some days to tend the stove. Hah. If we lived in any area with colder winters I'd definitely want a larger stove or a better insulated house. If temps are in the high 20s for weeks on end it will keep the house at 75 just fine. IF we get several days in a row of teens or low 20s, which is only maybe one week out of the year, it definitely has trouble keeping the house as warm as I'd like, but thats rare in north georgia so its a good fit for us. It would be fun to try other stoves in the future, but a better stove may spoil me and force me to realize how terrible this stove is. Hah.
