LA IMPORTANCIA DEL DISCIPULADO - Una Conversación con Paul D. Washer

In this discussion, we will have a special guest, Brother Paul David Washer, with whom we will talk about the importance of discipleship and how it is closely related to the local church. We will also discuss what biblical discipleship entails. Washer defines discipleship as "teaching with the purpose of conforming the student to the character and works of Jesus Christ" (4:30), emphasizing that biblical knowledge is a means to live in accordance with that knowledge (5:00). Key points of the conversation: Discipleship vs. Superficial Evangelism (7:36): It is argued that superficial, "one-time" evangelism has de-emphasized discipleship, even though Jesus' command is to "make disciples" (10:09). Role of the local church and pastors (11:51): The local church is the epicenter of the Great Commission, and discipleship is primarily the work of elders/pastors through the pulpit, personal contact, and counseling (13:11). The tendency of pastors to stray from their primary ministry of prayer and the Word of God is criticized (18:50). Importance of personal Bible study (42:20): Although books and historical theology are important, Washer emphasizes that nothing replaces direct and in-depth study of the Bible (43:17). Design of discipleship manuals (35:45): Washer explains that his manuals were created in Peru due to the need to protect churches from sects, offering questions and biblical texts so that students can find the answers in Scripture itself (37:02). Challenges and Encouragement for Pastors (48:47): The great responsibility of the pastor to study the Word and pray deeply is addressed, emphasizing that their work is the most important in the Kingdom of God, even more so than any secular position (49:00). Young people are encouraged to persevere in studying the Word and praying, despite difficulties (1:01:17).
