THE SANTA JUSTA LIFT

The Santa Justa Lift (Portugese: Elevador de Santa Justa), also known as the Carmo Lift (Portugese: Elevador do Carmo) is a passenger lift that connects the Baixa and Chiado districts in downtown Lisbon, Portugal. Originally installed as a steam powered lift in 1902 and was converted to electric power in 1907. The lift is considered a part of Lisbon's public transportation system and it is currently operated by Carris, which is the main operator of busses, trams and funiculars in the city. The lift was certified as a national monument in 2002. P.S. A quick advice for anyone who want to experience this, try to get there early(around 9 to 10 AM) if you don't want to wait on a very long queue. --The Santa Justa Lift-- Brand: R.
