First test of my new Yamaha BB735a – Bathory "Woman of Dark Desire" After 17 years, I’ve finally bought a new bass guitar – a five-string Yamaha BB735a! It feels like a solid upgrade compared to my previous basses, so I thought it was time to test the sound and give you a first impression of what it sounds like. In this video, I’m playing Bathory’s "Woman of Dark Desire" from the album Under the Sign of the Black Mark, a song that, over 20 years ago, sparked my interest in extreme metal. I’m testing different sounds from the pickups on the bass, with no effects or amplifiers – going straight into the audio interface to showcase the raw tone. I also added a compressor to even out the sound in the mix. But it’s still metal, of course. Some tracks have more gain than others, so I’ve tried to normalize the sound to make it as consistent as possible, but there’s still some variation.
