Learning Wild Mushrooms in December- with a short microscopy tutorial
In this video Aaron Hilliard, mycologist- creator- VP of the mycological society- takes us on a journey into Mushroom Wonderland to discover what wild mushrooms might be growing in a forest near you in December. This video was made in the great Pacific Northwest but this information could also be relevant in your neck of the woods if you live elsewhere. Mushrooms love to grow wherever it is moist and at the right temperatures, and many of these species grow all over the world, just in slightly different habitats or with different tree hosts. This video could be a great resource for beginner foragers as well as people who have done a little research in the world of mycology but want to go deeper. At the end there is a short microscopy tutorial where Aaron takes a Pluteus and shows how to do a spore print and to dehydrate and take a gill section and mount it on a microscope slide, and then look at it under the scope. Very interesting if you've never seen spores or the amazing antler-like structures on the "deer mushroom.' Several products were shown in the video and below this are the links to easily buy these things for yourself, and buying through these links also helps to support Mushroom Wonderland.
