EP39: ID4AFRICA 2023: THE IDENTITY VERIFICATION ECOSYSTEM

Simulcast Live on May 23, 2023 Plenary Session 1 at ID4Africa 2023 in Nairobi titled "The Identity Verification Ecosystem" opens with a spectacular seminal keynote by Dr. Joseph Atick, followed by an insightful policy panel, and culminates in a series of presentations and an associated panel discussion with 6 identity authority heads. The focus of this opening session is on identity verification – the next major step after establishing identity. We explore how the different actors could collaborate to create the necessary DPIs in support of this critical function, and hear about case studies on identity verification from the authorities in Africa and beyond. Along the way, we learn how a well-regulated private sector could play a game-changing role in decentralizing identity verification to give individuals more control over their data, without undermining government sovereignty or its role in issuing credentials centrally.
