Research and Innovation Matters | Season 4, Episode 5: Dr Elizabeth Ndakukamo

Research and Innovation Matters is an initiative of the Directorate of Research, Innovation and Partnerships (DRIP) at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST). In this episode, we are joined by Dr Elizabeth Ndakukamo, Lecturer and recent PhD graduate in Public Health. Under the theme “Cervical Cancer in Namibia: When Prevention Exists but Access Fails,” Dr Ndakukamo reflects on why cervical cancer, despite being one of the most preventable diseases, continues to affect women in Namibia, particularly in rural communities. The conversation explores the gap between awareness and action, the barriers women face in accessing screening and prevention services, and the role of community-based research in improving health outcomes. From rural fieldwork and health system challenges to prevention, access, and community-driven solutions, this episode unpacks how research can contribute to better public health responses and more equitable healthcare for women in Namibia.
