Building Bridges | Alexandre Renaud
Can Quebec's English-speaking community help unite Canada? The Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages (OCOL) noted growing public debate around Quebec’s English-speaking communities (ESCQ). While data suggests these communities are highly bilingual and supportive of Canada’s linguistic duality, public awareness remains unclear. To explore this, OCOL launched the Building Bridges project in 2024 to examine the ESCQ’s relationship with French and official bilingualism in Canada, challenging persistent myths by highlighting their potential role in promoting French and fostering constructive dialogue. Guest Speaker: Alexandre Renaud, Senior Regional Engagement Agent, Quebec & Nunavut Region, Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages (OCOL) Moderator: Paulina Abarca-Cantin, Executive Director, Seniors Action Quebec Resources: QUESCREN Research Paper on the Realities of English-speaking Seniors: https://www.concordia.ca/content/dam/...
