The Azov Battalion is the most controversial armed organization in Ukraine, with many of its members considered neo-Nazis and the entire unit accused of war crimes in the 2014 separatist conflicts in their country. Azov returned to world headlines in 2022, being the main Ukrainian military force acting in the defense of the city of Mariupol. The Russo-Ukrainian War began on February 24, 2022, when Russian forces invaded Ukraine under orders from President Vladimir Putin, with the alleged objective of "demilitarizing and denazifying" the country. Surprisingly, Ukrainian forces managed to paralyze the enemy's initial offensive, and the war turned into a fierce battle of attrition.
