كيف تشتري بنصف السعر في تركيا؟ تعلم أسرار المفاصلة باللغة التركية!
Welcome to a new video on the "Mahmoud and Ipek" channel! 🇹🇷✨ Do you find shopping trips in Turkey difficult? Do you sometimes feel like you're paying extra because you don't know how to haggle in Turkish? In this comprehensive lesson from our Turkish conversation series, we'll delve into the secrets of shopping in Turkey. We'll learn everything about the traditional Turkish bazaar, shops, and the most important words and phrases you'll need for buying and selling. Most importantly, we'll learn the authentic Turkish art of bargaining (Pazarlık)! As a Turkish language teacher, I designed this lesson to be your practical guide, accompanying you step-by-step through the streets and markets of Istanbul. We'll not only learn individual words, but also the correct pronunciation and how to use these phrases in their cultural context to earn the respect of Turkish vendors and get the best possible price. Keep this description handy for your shopping trips anywhere in Türkiye! 1️⃣ Greetings and Entering the Shop (Giriş ve Selamlaşma): Kolay gelsin: Good luck/May God grant you good health (A key phrase to say before any conversation with any salesperson in Turkey). Hoş bulduk: Welcome (The perfect response to a salesperson's greeting, Hoş geldiniz). Bakabilir miyim?: May I look?/May I browse? (Used if you don't want to buy immediately). Sadece bakıyorum, teşekkür ederim: I'm just taking a look, thank you (Politely ends a salesperson's insistence). Yardımcı olabilir misiniz?: Can you help me? 2️⃣ Asking the Price (Fiyat Sorma): Ne kadar?: How much?/What is the price? Bunun fiyatı ne?: What is the price of this item? (Using the genitive construction). Toplam ne kadar tuttu?: What is the total? (Said when calculating at the end). Kilosu ne kadar?: How much per kilo? (Used especially in the vegetable market). Tanesi ne kadar?: How much per piece? / How much per item? 3️⃣ The Art of Haggling and Asking for a Discount (Pazarlık ve İndirim): İndirim yapar mısınız?: Are you offering a discount? (Using a polite request). Çok pahalı: Very expensive. Biraz pahalıymış: It seems a little expensive (A softening of the reaction to encourage the seller to lower the price). Son fiyat ne olur?: What is the final price? (One of the most important phrases in Turkey). Bize ne olur?: How much will it be for us? (A friendly and approachable bargaining style that salespeople love.) Öğrenci indirimi var mı?: Is there a student discount? Bütçemi aşıyor: It's beyond my budget. Başka yerde daha ucuzdu: It was cheaper elsewhere. Kurtarmaz: It doesn't cover my costs (a phrase a salesperson usually says when you ask for a very low price). Siftah bizden olsun: May our first sale of the day be a blessing. 4️⃣ Clothing Sizes and Colors (Beden ve Renkler): Beden: Size. Bu çok dar / geniş: This is too tight / too loose. Bir numara büyüğü / küçüğü var mı?: Is there a size one size larger / smaller? Is there another color for this item? Where is the fitting room? It fits me perfectly. Black / White / Red / Blue / Green 5️⃣ At the vegetable market (Semt Pazarında): Is this fresh? Can I take half a kilo? Can I pick (choose the herbs myself instead of letting the vendor)? Two bunches of parsley. Can I take an extra plastic bag? 6️⃣ Payment, Checkout, and Emergency Issues (Ödeme, Çıkış ve İade): Nakit mi, Kredi kartı mı?: Cash or credit card? Kart geçiyor mu?: Do you accept card payments? (Is there a cash register or POS terminal?) Para üstü: Change (the small change the seller gives you). Bozuk paranız var mı?: Do you have any small change? Defolu: There is a manufacturing defect (a very important term when discovering a defect in clothing at the bazaar). İade edebilir miyim?: Can I return this item? Değiştirebilir miyim?: Can I exchange it for another item? Fiş alabilir miyim?: Can I take the invoice/receipt? (essential for the return process). Hayırlı işler: Good deeds / Abundant sustenance (said when leaving a shop as a sign of respect). 🌟 About the channel: I'm Mahmoud Sami, a Turkish language teacher, and my wife, Ipek, takes you on an enjoyable journey to learn Turkish in an easy and practical way.
