It shows how the xyz-accelerations can be calculated into a total acceleration that can be saved and later transferred to a computer and processed in a spreadsheet. In free fall the Micro:bit accelerometer will not detect any gravitational field. If you select "acceleration (mg) strength", the xyz values are added in the same way as shown in the formula.
