Mixing mortar/ mud can seem like a daunting task to the uninitiated. It’s really a simple process of counting shovel fulls, keeping a 3:1 ratio of aggregate(concrete/coarse sand in this case) to cement, and making sure it has the right moisture content for your specific use. For rock walls the mix will be relatively dry, allowing for it to be packed behind rocks and hold up some weight to allow for multiple rows to be laid in a single day.
