Die "Rolex für Arme"
The Tudor brand isn't really any less well-known than Rolex, but most people only know it as a "cheaper Rolex knockoff." What's the truth behind this rumor? No, Tudor's craftsmanship is more coarse, but that's also part of the brand's character: Many surfaces are rougher, and details like the hands aren't quite as finely crafted as their Rolex counterparts. Overall, however, the craftsmanship of Tudor's watches must be described as very good – especially in this price range, few other watches come close to Tudor's quality standards. What about the movements? Tudor has been using in-house movements for its watches since 2016 – a significant improvement over the previously used, refined ETA movements. Tudor and Breitling support each other for some movements, as is the case here with the Black Bay Chrono: The Tudor MT5813 caliber uses the B01 from the Breitling Premier as its base caliber, but Tudor equips it with its own hairspring, regulator, and rotor, and has the movement COSC-certified – like all other TUDOR movements. Overall, TUDOR movements are manufactured to a very high standard, and Rolex movements are also certified according to the same COSC standard. Furthermore, with a power reserve of 70 hours, Tudor movements offer even more power than most Rolex calibers (although Rolex is now catching up, and its new movements also have power reserves of over 70 hours). How does the Tudor compare to the Rolex? You can't simply say one of the watches is inferior to the other. Yes, the Rolex is a bit more finely crafted, and may even be retested by Rolex after the COSC certification for slightly greater accuracy, but no one compares watches based on their specifications. It's important to note that the two watches are completely different types: The Rolex is more stern, the suit-wearing of the two, while the Tudor, in this analogy, represents the bearded guy with a lumberjack shirt. The Chrono S&G is more daring than the Daytona and therefore comes across as more relaxed, but the whole thing really works brilliantly! Of course, you can't expect quite the same prestige factor as a Rolex with the Tudor, but on the other hand, you don't have to worry about being labeled a show-off with this watch. HOW STABLE IS TUDOR'S VALUE? Seriously: You should NOT judge a watch by its value retention, otherwise the attention to detail somehow gets lost. Anyone looking to invest is in a bad place with watches anyway, but if you're simply worried that the money invested in a TUDOR will be wasted, I can reassure you: Tudor watches also hold their value quite well, although in 2019, for most models, this is still BELOW the list price, although the trend is rising. CONCLUSION: Calling TUDOR a "poor man's Rolex" simply doesn't do the brand justice. It is much more than that, and contrary to clichés to the contrary, Tudor watches are actually not that similar to Rolex timepieces anymore. Tudor offers a very unique character, truly outstanding quality, and watches that you can also enjoy for a lifetime – perhaps even more than Rolex. Instead of forming prejudices, everyone should just try on a watch and see for themselves! WHAT DO YOU THINK? Let me know in the comments, I'm looking forward to exchanging ideas with you ✌🏻
