Emanuele Buratti was born in Turin on December 27, 1965. After a period in England, he moved to Trieste in 1984 to attend the University of Trieste and graduate in Biological Sciences. After earning a PhD in Biochemistry, he held a position as Staff Research Scientist at the International Centre for Genetic Engineering in Padriciano (ICGEB), where he worked on several research projects related to the role of RNA maturation processes in numerous genetic diseases, such as cystic fibrosis, neurofibromatosis, and most recently Pompe disease. In recent years, his research has focused particularly on the study of molecular mechanisms in neurodegenerative diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and frontotemporal dementia.
