We Play Crate With Only Secrets of Strixhaven Cards

Get prepared for an unforgettable Magic lesson as we play a game of Crate made up entirely of cards from Secrets of Strixhaven! Crate is the format that says forget everything you know about building decks as new Strixhaven students Aric and Leaderkilla (that's what it said on his college application) dive in for instant casual chaos gameplay. Let's put this set to the test! Crate designed by Alex Vo, who also directed and edited this episode. HOW TO BUILD A CRATE Like a tabletop or board game, the crate is provided by one player, who acts as the host/game master. To build: 1. Gather at least 1,000 random cards, sorted by the five colors. Leave out multicolored and double-faced cards. 2. Remove planeswalker card types. 3. Remove all cards with these abilities and effect keywords: planeswalker, library, deck, scry, mill, cascade, explore, destroy all lands, opening hand, commander. 4. Further remove card abilities and effects to shape the crate to your liking, including old ones ("banding"), set-specific one-offs (monarch, venture), and ones you just don't care for ("regenerate"). 5. Put all the cards in a box, the five colors separated and labeled. 6. Randomly distribute artifact creatures, vehicles, and non-basic lands across the five colors. HOW TO PLAY 1. Pass out seven random basic lands to each player. This is your opening hand, and the only basic lands you receive for the game. 2. Everyone rolls a d20. Highest is starting player. 3. Play the game using the same standard rules for Magic, except each player draws 2 cards from anywhere in the crate during their draw phase. 4. For games with three players or more, you may only attack the opponent to your left during combat phase. When a player's life total reaches 0, the opponent to their right is declared winner and the game ends. 5. After games conclude, it's recommended to not re-insert the cards back into the crate immediately. Instead, sort the cards and put them in the back of a storage box, and then replenish the crate with cards for the front of the storage box. This creates churn so games never repeat. #magic #magicthegatheringcommunity #mtg #magicthegatheringtcg #cardgame #gaming #tcg
