On Saturday, June 20, a memorial day was held in the municipality of Raalte for an aircraft crash that occurred on June 20, 1942, in Schoonheeten. Four crew members of a Wellington bomber lost their lives in this crash. The crash had a major impact on both Schoonheeten and Raalte. It was the first time that Allied casualties occurred in Raalte. Many more followed during the subsequent war years. This memorial day was organized by the Raalte for Freedom Foundation.
