What We Found on Thailand’s Rayong & Chanthaburi Coast

We spent a long weekend revisiting the Rayong and Chanthaburi coast, a region that serves as the perfect escape when we need a break from Bangkok city life.  This is our fifth trip to this stretch of the Gulf of Thailand, and we still find something new every time.   This time, we braved the sometimes-rickety boardwalks that lace the magical Tung Phrong Thong (ทุ่งโปรงทอง), where the mangrove canopy glows in the afternoon light, earning it the nickname "The Golden Meadow."   Further down the coast, we explore Ao Krathing (อ่าวกระทิง), a quiet cove at the end of a rocky promontory.  This unique geology gives the bay the cleanest sand and clearest water in the region.   This started as a last-minute trip to ease the comedown from our amazing Songkran road trip through Southern Thailand (episode links below), but it turned out to be an absolute delight in its own right.    TABLE OF CONTENTS 0:00 – Weekend Escape to Rayong and Chanthaburi 1:23 – Arriving at Camp Cayla to Feed the Fish 2:28 – Laem Mae Phim Seafood Feast 4:56 – Laem Mae Phim Beach: Evening and Morning 5:51 – Tung Prong Thong: The Golden Meadow 8:05 – Pak Nam Prasae Mangrove Forest Observation Tower 9:41 – Ao Krathing: Charming Hidden Beach in Chanthaburi 14:02 – Walking on Water at Chao Lao Bay 14:56 – Kho Khao Seafood on Chao Lao Bay OUR SOUTHERN THAILAND ROAD TRIP SERIES: Ep 1 The Slow Road from Bangkok to Ranong:    • From Bangkok to Southern Thailand, As Slow...   Ep 2 Koh Phra Thong – The Empty Island:    • Why Nobody Visits Koh Phra Thong (And Why ...   Ep 3 Snorkeling the Surin Islands:    • We Found Thailand’s Best Snorkeling in the...   Ep 4 Searching for the Quiet Khao Lak:    • Why We Left the Khao Lak Resorts (And Wher...   Ep 5 Phang Nga Bay with Kids:    • Cruising Thailand's Phang Nga Bay with Kids   Ep 6 Songkran at Surat Thani’s Jungle Springs:    • Finding the Crystal-Clear Jungle Springs o...   Subscribe ‪@TouchGrassTour‬ to follow the full journey.
