Welcome to my video about Thyroid Eye Disease. Thyroid eye disease, or TED, is an autoimmune condition that affects the eye muscles and tissues. It is a complication of Graves’ disease, an overactive thyroid disorder. The most common signs of TED are bulging eyes, redness, double vision, and dry eyes. If untreated, these symptoms can cause a decrease in vision, light sensitivity, and even blindness. TED is diagnosed through a physical exam and laboratory tests. Treatment may include medications to reduce inflammation and swelling of the eye, corrective surgery, steroid injections, or radiation. It is important to take TED seriously and seek medical attention right away. Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent permanent vision damage.
