Into the Misty Wilderness—Southern Section 1, Day 1 |走進迷霧深山—南一段 Day 1
🔗 Taitung Chishang(池上) accommodation and shuttle info: jiaminglake.tdbnb.net Into the Misty Wilderness—Southern Section 1, Day 1 Our journey to one of Taiwan’s wildest trails began before we ever set foot on the mountain. A quiet night train ride took us from Taipei to Chishang(池上), a small town nestled among rice fields and mountains. After a simple night at a guesthouse, we made our way deep into the Central Mountain Range. As dawn broke, the Southern Cross-Island Highway welcomed us with misty valleys and landslide-ridden roads—reminders of the power of nature. Light rain greeted us at the trailhead. But we believed: the weather will change. The trail wasted no time. A steep, humid climb into dense forest left us soaked in sweat and rain, carrying everything we’d need for the next 6 days. Slippery wooden steps, thick mist, and silence—it felt like the mountain was testing our resolve. Eventually, we reached Kuhanoshin Mountain Hut, the only shelter along this entire route. A brief break, a tasty lunch, and we were back on the trail—lighter packs, heavier clouds. We headed for Kuhanoshin Mountain, still wrapped in drizzle. When we reached the summit of Kuhanoshin Mountain, it was completely white with fog—but we still believed the weather would get better. And then—it happened. The clouds parted. Mountains emerged from the fog. By sunset, the sky had transformed into a dream: golden light, swirling clouds, a sea of fire below us. This moment—unexpected, unplanned—was everything. Back at the hut, we warmed up with hot meals and gratitude. This was just Day 1. And tomorrow? We climb Guanshan (3,668m)—one of Taiwan’s "Ten Grand Peaks" and the highest peak in southern Taiwan along the Central Mountain Range Grand Trail (CMRGT). 🌲 This is Southern Section 1 of Taiwan’s Central Mountain Range Grand Trail (CMRGT)—a 6-day expedition across 50 km (31 mi), over 4,000m of elevation gain, and six of Taiwan’s 100 Peaks. This video is just the beginning. 🔔 Subscribe for new episodes!
