Coniston Fells Winter Wild Camp on Black Sails the Missing Wainwright in the Hilleberg Nammatj 2

I get parked up in the village of Coniston and after a quick coffee stop from the local cafe, I make my way up to Levers Water. The weather isn’t great, totally clagged in, windy and raining typical lakeland weather. After a short hike I reach Levers Water to which the weather starts to change for the better. I collect water and reach the summit of Black Sails, home for the night. The views open up and are stunning why Wainwright didn’t include this summit in his books is a mystery. After a very windy cold night the following morning brings a crisp winters day with amazing views. I break camp and hike back down along the ridge of Black Sails into the copper mine valley, passing old mine ruins and mining caves. Amazing camp with contrasting weather on a summit Wainwright should have included, in my opinion. Disclaimer: Camping and Hiking in the Mountains is an amazing experience. Being in the outdoors is very good for the mind, body and the soul. However the weather in the Lake District can change very quickly from a calm sunny day to totally clagged in and freezing cold.
