About this warm-up This warm-up is inspired by principles of West African movement that Ksenia Parkhatskaya studied at l’École des Sables in Toubab Dialaw, Senegal, as well as during workshops with Les Grandes Dames des Danses d’Afrique, including Germaine Acogny, Irène Tassembédo, Flora Tefaine, and Elsa Wolliaston. Rather than focusing only on stretching or isolated exercises, this warm-up aims to awaken the whole body through rhythm, posture, coordination, awareness, and movement. A good warm-up is one of the best gifts you can give yourself as a dancer. Even a short 10-15 minute routine before practice can help improve movement quality, increase body awareness, reduce injury risk, and make dancing more enjoyable. The goal of a warm-up is simple: ✔ Get warm ✔ Get the blood moving ✔ Wake up your body ✔ Prepare your mind for dancing And ideally, begin entering the world of the dance style you are about to explore. Whether you’re practicing solo jazz, Charleston, swing dance, or simply moving to great jazz music, taking time to prepare your body will transform the quality of your dancing. #JazzDance #SwingDance #CharlestonDance #LearnToDance #JazzMusic
