JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV - The Association of All Indonesian Trade Unions (ASPIRASI) is urging the government to eliminate taxes on Old Age Security (JHT), severance pay, THR (holiday allowance), and pension funds. ASPIRASI President, Mira Sumira, believes that JHT is workers' savings used as a financial cushion during retirement or layoffs, so tax cuts are seen as reducing the benefits workers receive. In this dialogue, ASPIRASI also highlighted the threat of mass layoffs, the high cost of living, and asked the government to open dialogue with labor unions before implementing tax policies. If these demands are not met, the labor unions stated that they will conduct national consolidation, hold hearings with the House of Representatives (DPR), and even take constitutional action to fight for the elimination of taxes on JHT, THR, and severance pay.
