The Twilight Years of the Coniston Railway
Following on from my video of the last ever steam operated running session of the late Major Hext's Coniston Railway, this video features some of the other running sessions in the final two years before closure. The four steam locos are seen in action, plus a ride on board the large battery loco "John Hext". Virtually the whole line is seen, including the stub up to the former tennis court, and a decent part of the way down the famous 1 in 12 gradient between the upper and lower sections. With the removal of everything following the auction all that is left now of what is seen in this video is a bare trackbed whilst locos, coaches, track, signals and buildings are begining new lives elsewhere.
