occasionally, he saw brief glimpses of beauty.
The story of Jonas Mekas. Jonas Mekas, often said to be the Godfather of Avant-Garde cinema, has long gone unknown, despite his significant contributions to cinema. Jonas was born in little Lithuania, and was limited by his smaller language, so he turned to film as a way of expression. He was a significant figure in the underground art scene along with people like Andy Warhol and Lou Reed. But, in 2000, he decided to put together 30 years of home videos into a 5 hour documentary of his life. Jonas Mekas and his diary/documentary films greatly influenced underground cinema, despite his lack of fame. ~ By Jackson Cline
