Exploring Naturehoods with Vicky Earle

John Muir Laws joins Vicky Earle to talk about community and exploring naturehoods! (Class session 7 December 2023) Nature sketchbook journaling is a powerful tool to connect with community on many levels. When we use our sketchbooks to connect with the world around us, we become part of the inspirational, worldwide community of nature journalers. Our sketchbooks also allow us to share our passion with others closer to home – family, friends, neighbors, students, even strangers passing by. But most importantly, sketchbook journaling connects us with our natural world communities in profound ways – and this is its most incredible superpower! Join guest Vicky Earle to talk about community, exploring “naturehoods” – the topic of her new book – and her favorite mushrooms: bird’s nest fungi. Natural science, medical, and botanical illustrator Vicky Earle delights in connecting people to nature through art. After working in the health care profession for thirty years, she is now dedicated to sharing natural history stories that take place every day all around us. Her goal is to help foster curiosity and an affinity for the natural world by encouraging people to follow their own art practice. She has kept sketchbooks throughout her career and began a dedicated sketchbook journal practice in 2014. Most recently, she is the author of “Exploring Vancouver Naturehoods: An artist’s sketchbook journal” and “Duets: The Dance of Symbiotic Relationships”.
