Diamond Girl Bass Cover
I bet you didn’t see this one coming. “Diamond Girl” by Seals and Crofts which is the title track of the album which came out in 1973 and featured, I think, Bobby Lichtig on bass. Wilton Felder is also credited as playing bass on the album, but I’m leaning towards Bobby. You might recognize Wilton as the bass player on “I Want You Back” by The Jackson 5. A few other big names appear in the album credits, like - Jeff Porcaro and David Paich of Toto. I don’t remember what the inspiration was to learn this song, but here it is. I can clearly remember a 9 year old me listening to this while riding around in the back of my Mother’s Ford Maverick and liking it. I wonder if there was ever a time when music was as appealing to such a wide audience as it was in the early 70’s? I mean, I liked it AND my Mother liked it. Was there ever a time when the popular music of the day was liked both parents and children? Maybe there was, or was it just my age? I just remembered something funny about when I started learning this song. This was one where I started from the beginning and just worked my way through. Different songs take different approaches...sometimes I'll jump around, sometimes I'll learn the basics of the entire song and then go back and fill in the details, sometimes it's a combination of both. Anyway, as I worked my way toward the end of the song - it skipped! I didn't know an MP3 could skip! I was about to repurchase the song on iTunes before and it took a few listens before it sunk in and I realized that it was just some crazy part they threw into the song. I’m playing the NS Design Radius WAV bass which is now the “Death Studios Tribute Bass”. My bass guy, Joe Kruse, was doing some pick-up work for my (building a case for a Guild p/u to fit in this bass), but went on a bachelor-party road trip sort of thing. Hopefully, the bass will be put back together sometime next week. Here's a link to how the bass looks now - • Something Wicked This Way Comes
