The name ‘Sahasra Bahu’ translates to ‘One with a thousand arms,’ referring to Lord Vishnu, but over time, the name evolved to ‘Saas-Bahu,’ symbolizing the mother-in-law (saas) and daughter-in-law (bahu) duo, reflecting the dual temple structure.   Historical Background Commissioned by King Mahipala of the Kachchhwaha Dynasty, the larger temple was built for his wife, a devotee of Lord Vishnu, while the smaller adjacent temple was constructed for his daughter-in-law, a devotee of Lord Shiva. This unique familial dedication led to the colloquial naming of the temples as Saas-Bahu.
