I Can Do All Things (Philippians 4:13) | Out Of Context PT 1 | EP185
In our new series, Out of Context: Pt 1: I Can Do All Things, Walking The Text Content Director Brad Nelson examines why so many of us misunderstand Paul’s words in Philippians 4:13. Failing to understand the Bible in its original context can cause us to demand and expect things of God’s Word that God never intended. Philippians 4:13 is a case in point. Arguably one of the most well-known passages in the entire Bible, you can find an endless supply of Philippians 4:13 merchandise online: jewelry, t-shirts, pillows, and coffee mugs. Christian athletes draw motivation from these inspiring words. Yet, understanding these words apart from Paul’s context can turn them into something Paul didn’t mean. For many achievement-focused people, Philippians 4:13 has come to mean, “God will empower me to do whatever I set my mind to.” But Paul wrote the words, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” while in prison. In Paul’s world, prison was a place associated with shame. Moreover, examining Philippians 4:11-12 reveals that Paul isn’t talking about achievement but contentment. By the end of Out of Context Pt 1: I Can Do All Things, you’ll see how the connection to Jesus can unlock the secret of contentment in your life! https://bit.ly/outofcontextpt1 Thanks for watching and hit that subscribe button!
