Did the authorities truly believe that this man was the Christ? 27. But we know where this man came from. When the Christ comes, no one will know where he comes from. 28. Jesus taught in the temple and cried out, “You know Me and you know where I came from, but I did not come of my own accord. He who sent Me is the true one, whom you do not know. 29. But I know, for I came from him and he sent Me.” 30. They tried to seize Jesus, but no one laid a hand on him, for his time had not yet come. 31. Many in the crowd believed in Jesus and said, “Even if the Christ comes, will the signs he perform be more numerous than those this man has performed?” Hani 32. The Pharisees heard the murmuring of the crowds about Jesus. The chief priests and the Pharisees sent their servants to arrest him. 33. Jesus said, “I will be with you a little while longer, and then I will return to him who sent me. 34. You will look for me, but you will not find me, nor will you come to where I am.” 35. Then the Jews asked one another, “Where is this man going that we cannot find him? Is he going to the Greeks scattered among them to teach Greeks?” 36. “What does this mean, that you will look for me, but you will not find me, nor will you come to where I am?” 37. On the last day of the festival, the greatest day, Jesus stood and cried out, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. 38. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture says, rivers of living water will flow from within him.” 39. He was speaking of the Holy Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive. (Jesus had not yet been glorified Therefore, the Holy Spirit was not yet with them.)
